Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and also as an United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected the district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be a senator in the United States Senate. She was a senator and campaigned for reforms to healthcare, federal cannabis de-scheduling, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform.
